About this deal

It exhibits: slender stick-style hour markers, a silver dauphine handset and a day-date display window that is positioned besides the 3 o’clock marker. Part of the Coutura collection, the SSG009 is another crowd-pleaser with some nice look-at-me features.

Pick up the SNKL41 if you want a clean, minimalist white dial watch that can pair well with quite literally any outfit or watch strap. Still, it’s a fine example of the species with its sturdy stainless steel case, water resistance to 330 feet, and rotating bezel. It’s not offensive or out there in any way with the most abstract feature being the crown at 4 and that dial change up. Traditionally, this was so dive watches could have larger hour markers, and be more legible when divers used them underwater. They were made to commemorate the 50th anniversary of Seiko and became the go-to suggestion for new watch collectors. If blue isn’t your thing, there are two other variations, a black and grey SSK001, and the bright orange SSK005. I like the case shape of the SNKL45 (I used to own one), but given the small size, I always thought it looked a disproportionately chunky on aftermarket 18 mm bands. Both the watch’s open case back and the front of it are protected by highly durable hardlex crystal glass. Taking a look at this particular model, the SRPE53 is part of the “DressKX” lineup, a nickname given as it’s a dressier version of the SKX one of Seiko’s most popular dive watches of all time.

When you consider that this is an entry-level watch with pretty attractive looks, solid stats, a respectable size and is made from a well known brand, it's very hard to fault. Hacking simply stops the second hand when setting the time to be able to set the time more accurately, and hand-winding allows you to wind the automatic movement by hand, instead of only when it’s on your wrist. While maybe not the most interesting or unique-looking watch, this is perfect for someone who just wants a nice-looking watch on the wrist without drawing too much attention. It’s the kind of dive watch that doesn’t smack you in the face with its dive watch-ness, making it yet another wear-anywhere option. Just that little details shifts it a bit too sport and less dress enough that I don't think it works. When you get a Seiko, you know you’re getting a watch with tough-as-nails movement and ironclad construction throughout.
