About this deal

You can also choose to have the shortcuts for source, voice commands, navigation, text, and phone dialing along the bottom of the screen or not. With the display split into thirds, I can only see part of the song info as it scrolls along, but it does show album artwork when using a wired connection (more on that in a minute). Launching the Smart Sync application from the receiver just brings up a couple of more options, including showing the button shortcuts on the phone screen or not, and card/list display options for albums, artists, and titles. Switching music sources Pioneer's SPH-10BT digital media receiverturns into a touchscreen receiver with voice control when combined with a smartphone. (Use the slider to see the stereo with and without a phone.) A stereo designed for smartphone integration The SPH-10BT also includes RDS features, specifically PTY (Program Type) identification. Safe Access To Your Smartphone– Utilising the Pioneer Smart Sync app, you can connect to a wide variety of commonly used applications, including various music and mapping apps such as Spotify®# and Google Maps™#. It lets you easily access all the compatible apps you use on a daily basis without distracting you from the road. The SPH-10BT is designed to be used only with the Pioneer Smart Sync app on a smartphone mounted securely, safely, and legally within your vehicle. Any other use of the smartphone while driving may be dangerous and violate the law. Pioneer's new smart connected car device is designed to help eliminate distractions while driving — like looking for your phone to see directions on Waze. All the information you need appears on your smartphone screen, which connects to Pioneer's smart sync smartphone receiver, and takes advantage of a USB port and Bluetooth. The voice button lets me compose a text and it also lets me choose to have an incoming message read aloud to me. This is definitely one of the most handy features of Smart Sync, and I found the incoming text being read aloud quite easy to understand. We also liked the added voice control the device brought, and it was easy to set up voice commands thanks to the Smart Sync app. We were able to easily use verbal commands to find our favorite song or station. Connect any device with an USB interface cable to charge your device or listen to clean, clear sound A 31-band EQ could easily provide hours of fun tweaks if I was using it in a car with a decent stereo system. It even includes several presets and a pair of customizable options that I can save. I don't really know much about "Super Todoroki Sound" but there are three settings for it, or I can just turn it off.

There are two ways to install the Pioneer SPH-10BT — you either do it yourself or ask an authorized dealer. Since I am not that handy when it comes to installing car stereo systems, I went the dealer authorized route. Pioneer guided us to Vikas Mooichandani at Avenue Sound on Long Island who installed the SPH-10BT in our GB test car, an older Subaru Forester. He held up test the receiver, and we found his team very knowledgeable about new connected car devices. The RDS (Radio Data System) features allow users to access additional information from participating radio stations, such as program type (PTY). This enhances the overall radio listening experience.

Pioneer's SPH-10BT, the perfect match for today's on-the-go lifestyle, offers a new approach to smartphone connectivity. Simply mount your smartphone¹ in the built-in cradle², then connect (either wirelessly or wired,) to the Pioneer Smart Sync app³ and enjoy a smarter connected driving experience. Specially designed for easy use, the SPH-10BT features direct access buttons that work with the Pioneer Smart Sync app to bring multimedia capabilities such as navigation, hands-free calling, messaging, and voice-command to a single-DIN receiver. In general, it works pretty well for basic music, mapping, messaging, and calling functions, and the voice command aspect of it is very attractive from a safety perspective. Sonic enthusiasts will definitely dig all the tweaks available through the app. The clever modular structure of this thoroughly modern unit means customers get all the benefits of a large touchscreen display that fits inside even the smallest single DIN car stereo spaces. Particularly good for older cars, the Pioneer boasts pretty much everything you could possible want in an infotainment system. Simulated Sound Fields" add the ambience of different types of listening rooms to my tunes, like concert hall and stadium. And there's "Easy Sound Fit" for making no-hassle time correction tweaks depending on what kind of car I'm in. More advanced settings include manual adjustments to time correction and fader/balance controls. If you have an older car, and use your smartphone often, then definitely consider SPH-10BT to inject a new connected driving experience to your vehicle. But do note that if your smartphone runs out of power while using the receiver, you'll also lose access to the app. You can still listen to music, but you won't be able to pull up all of the other features.

I didn’t play much with an Android device, but according to the manual, as long as you're using the Smart Sync app, everything will work the way it should, whether you use USB or Bluetooth to connect to your phone. After all, that's how the stereo is designed to be used — in conjunction with the app.

With the SPH-10BT we were able to enjoy all the amenities you normally get from newer cars with built-in touchscreen entertainment or infotainment systems, but at the faction of the cost. The Pioneer smart sync app is easy to use and we were able to customize it to fit our driving needs. Integrate Your Smartphone with Your Receiver. Pioneer Smart Sync is a highly evolved app available for both iOS and Android OS that utilizes the power of a connected smartphone to expand the features and user interface of compatible Pioneer in-dash receivers. With support for either a Bluetooth® or USB connection, the link between your smartphone and the in-dash receiver can be either wired or wireless.
