About this deal

My test system includes an Nvidia RTX 3070, 16GB of Corsair 3,466MHz memory and a custom water ... [+] cooling system to eliminate any thermal limits. Antony Leather

Both Ryzen 7000 and Raptor Lake's modern connectivity technologies bring big increases in throughput via DDR5 memory and PCIe 5.0 interfaces, but Intel also chose to continue to support DDR4 memory to offer a less-expensive path for builders. Meanwhile, AMD's decision to support only DDR5 has proven to be a pricing pain point. Here's a peek at the results we saw with the Ryzen 9 3900X versus the Core i9-9900K (as well as two other chips in their class) with a host of games on the RTX 2080 Ti and a synthetic benchmark... Even when AMD chips were crap people kept complaining about the price of Intel and we're telling people to buy the bargain. I listened unfortunately and missed out on a decade of great Intel chips. All the while I had to keep buying a new AMD chip to keep up. Therefore, did I really save money? It is a pity that Lenovo on the L7 2022 platform with AMD processors does not release light versions with 3050/3060 (and 32Gb/2Tb config from factory) with price lower then 6800H/6700M – so many people buy this series not for games, but for work (company buy it in offices) and as a multimedia laptop for home, with a much lower price. And removing the parrot stupid illumination of the case, with which people suffer and immediately turn it off forever. It is better to spend this money on an improved cooling system (liquid metal) and more radiators.

Until we see more Alder Lake-compatible motherboards outside of the Z690 chipset family being released, ownership of Intel 12th Gen chips will come at a higher cost compared to getting an AM4 system off the ground. Again, about a 25 percent advantage for the Ryzen 9. When the software in question is maximizing the use of cores and threads, the Ryzen 9 generally will prevail. I also find it interesting that the RTX 3080 GPU scores a little bit higher in the Intel models, both on the Legion 7 and especially on the Helios 500, all being similar 3080 165W chips. The 3080 130W chip in the Scar 17 ends up ~7-12% slower than the higher-power 3080 implementation, which is not bad when also considering there’s no MUX on the Scar 17, while all the other laptops mentioned here get one. The Intel CPU tends to have an edge over the Ryzen 9 in these tests. We’re looking at roughly 3-8% higher scores in both single-core and some multi-core tests, although in multi-threaded loads the two CPUs trade blows between the different tests.

The AMD Ryzen 9 3900X is an absolute behemoth of a processor, as it absolutely should be with its 12 cores, 24 threads and high price tag. If you’re looking for the absolute best processor money can buy on a mainstream processor, then look no further. Whether you’re playing PC games or even doing hardcore video and 3D work, the AMD Ryzen 9 3900X can handle them with ease. At both 1080p and 1440p resolutions, the Core i9-13900K outperforms the Ryzen 9 7950X by 15% and 11%, respectively. When we consider 99th percentile frame rate measurements, it too has a noticeable advantage. The Core i9-13900K is, in the end, the fastest gaming processor money can buy.

The Overclockers Difference

For example, if you're playing a PC game while talking to your friends on Discord, the load of the game will be handled by the P-cores, while the job of processing Discord is sent to the E-cores. This is all done through intelligent scheduling in Windows 11, via a service that Intel is calling Thread Director. The company says it plans to make this technology available only for that operating system. No Windows 10-based Thread Director is set for release. Neither of the chips in our AMD Ryzen 9 7950X vs Intel Core i9-13900K faceoff comes with a bundled cooler, but Raptor Lake's higher power consumption means you'll need a beefier cooler to contain the Core i9-13900K than you will for the Ryzen 9 7950X. Pricing: Intel Core i9-13900K vs Ryzen 9 7950X Though the race is closer on gaming than it is on productivity, in lightly threaded frame-rate record-setters like Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, the Ryzen 9 5900X gives our sample GPU (the still very high-end GeForce RTX 2080 Ti) the room it needs to sail to new heights at 4K by 30fps over the Intel Core i9-10900K, and at 1080p by 75fps. P-cores? E-cores? As you can see above, putting these two chips head-to-head presents an issue: We have some new kinds of cores to talk about. While AMD does pip Intel at the highest level, for the less expensive CPUs in the Ryzen 9 and Intel i9 ranges, those from Intel tend to offer similar single-core performance for a slightly lower price, and often significantly better multi-core performance. Keep in mind, however, that if you’re building a gaming PC multi-core performance is less important. Ryzen 9 vs Intel i9 – Compatibility
