About this deal

Everything looks better in 4K – with four times the resolution of Full HD, you'll marvel at the detail and colour definition. Stand: Aluminium swivel Internal menu languages English & multiple other languages Box contents - JVC LT-55CF820 Fire TV Edition 55" Smart 4K Ultra HD HDR QLED TV Hybrid Log Gamma (HLG) Bezel width 2.5 mm Smart Smart platform Fire TV Smart TV services - Catch up TV: BBC iPlayer, ITV Hub, All 4, My5, UKTV Play Please note: Freeview and some apps & services are only available in the UK. Apps & services may be removed or no longer supported by third party content providers at any time. Some apps & services may not be available at launch and may require a firmware update before becoming available. One place the JVC does trip up is in its latency. Even in its built-in Game mode, the TV displays a lag of 42ms. The result was even worse than the 33.8ms achieved by the Hisense A7100, which doesn’t have a game mode at all. Picture quality

The TV comes in three sizes – 40in, 49in and 55in – and all three have support for the HLG, HDR10 and Dolby Vision formats. That means you should be able to enjoy streaming HDR content from any of the main providers, with the added bonus that you’ll get the best results on any streaming service with Dolby Vision support, which currently includes Disney+ and Netflix. The 4K display supports Dolby Vision and HLG HDR formats, and the speakers take advantage of both DTS HD and DTS Virtual X audio. But, how does it perform? Hybrid Log Gamma (HLG) Smart Smart platform Fire TV Smart TV services - Catch up TV: BBC iPlayer, ITV Hub, All 4, My5, UKTV Play Forget flipping between apps – you'll find all your favourite shows on the home screen of this JVC Fire TV. You'll see recommendations from Prime Video, Netflix, Disney+, and Apple TV – and that's just the tip of the iceberg. Each member of the family can have their own profile, so your dramas won't get mixed in with the kids' favourites. It all looks great on the 4K QLED display which brings brilliant brightness and natural colours. HDR10 and Dolby Vision bring an even greater depth of colour and brilliant brightness, so everything looks more real. Those colours aren’t as intense as they should be in HDR mode, though, so don’t expect the kind of eye-popping colour which you get from pricier sets – the JVC covers a mere 70% of the DCI-P3 colour gamut, which is far less than even many mid-range TVs. By the same metric, even LG’s affordable UM7400 managed to cover 82% of DCI-P3. The LT-55CF890 features the old Fire TV interface and not the all-new Fire TV experience available on some of its streamers. It’s large and straightforward to navigate with tabs for the home screen, live TV, your videos, movies, TV, apps and settings.

The biggest issues with the JVC, however, are that it struggles with both motion and upscaling – two key performance elements of any self-respecting 4K TV. I didn’t expect much given the 60Hz refresh rate, but the panel’s slow response time is painfully obvious. It’s not too noticeable in brighter scenes, but detail and colours are smudged by horrible blur in darker moments. Similarly, while images look crisp in 4K when the camera is moving slowly, fast action and sports shows up the panel’s limitations, with detail becoming flattened and indistinct. Your entertainment has never felt more immersive. Dolby Atmos (from supported content) provides virtual surround sound, so you feel like the action is happening all around you. Together with DTS Virtual X and DTS HD, you get stunning audio. These are delivered by our specialist delivery teams. Deliveries take place 6 days a week from Monday to Saturday (excluding public holidays). At first, I tested this feature on a 1080p Blu-ray of The Martian, before moving on to a 480p and then an HD version of Arrested Development. Colours looked rather drab, which made the image less lifelike, although the upscaling overall was smoother and less noisy than that I experienced with the Hisense 50A7100FTUK. Sound quality

Everything looks better in 4K – with four times the resolution of Full HD, you'll marvel at the detail and colour definition on the JVC LT-55CF810 55" Smart 4K Ultra HD HDR LED Fire TV. All your favourite Prime shows and movies are just moments away. The built-in Fire TV smart platform makes it easy to find something new with personalised recommendations, a handy navigation bar, and sneeky peak - which gives you a preview of what's on. Please note: Failure to produce the card and relevant ID means we are unable to release goods on collection. The JVC Fire TV Edition has 4GB of storage space built in – and you can add more using the two built-in USB ports. That opens things up to the games section of Fire OS, and to make sure that you get that spot on the high score table, you can always connect a PS4 or Xbox One gamepad via Bluetooth. Alexa is waiting and ready to serve Other TVs support some apps, but as we’ve seen recently with older Samsung sets, Netflix support can be pulled at any minute. With Fire TV at the heart of things, you can set your mind at ease.

Once you’re into the Fire TV interface proper, you’re faced with a familiar set of tiles offering apps, recently watched programmes and suggestions of things you might want to watch. In addition to the usual suspects, you’ll also notice tiles for the TV’s various HDMI inputs and terrestrial TV tuner. These inputs are treated just like apps or watched programmes, so if you regularly use the HDMI 4 port, for instance, then that gets pole position in your recently watched list.Let’s not forget this is a TV and not just a screen. With Freeview HD built in, you get access to over 70 channels – 15 of which are HD. There’s a 14-day Electronic Program Guide (EPG) so you can plan ahead, and ensure you never miss the unmissable again. All the world’s musicians ready to play The JVC LT-55CF890 features two 20W speakers that support DTS HD and DTS Virtual:X. Unlike the 50- and 65-inch models, there’s no Dolby Audio. However, DTS Virtual:X does a good job of creating a large, immersive sound. Alexa is built-in, so you can give simple voice commands, control your smart devices, and search for entertainment All three sizes of the JVC Fire TV Edition deliver 4K images in eye-popping HDR. What does that mean? Well, remember when Full HD was the watchword? Full HD means you’re getting 1,920 x 1,080 pixels, but with 4K you’re upgrading to 3,840 x 2,160. With almost four times the pixels, everything looks sharper than you’d ever imagined possible. Plus, with HDR content you'll see a greater depth of colour and brilliant brightness for a more realistic viewing experience – those BBC documentaries have never looked so good.

Freeview Play makes it easy to catch up on episodes you've missed from the past week – all on demand and in one place The presence of Dolby Vision is particularly good news for a budget model. ‘Dynamic’ HDR formats such as Dolby Vision are capable of adapting to the limitations of low-end 4K TVs, whereas ‘static’ HDR formats such as HLG and HDR10 rely more heavily on a TV’s natural talents. At this price, those talents are routinely in short supply. JVC Fire TV Edition review: Key specifications
