About this deal

It’d be neat if you could select which voice prompts you want to play. Also, if you disable a prompt, it’d be cool if the mode could just change without muting the media.

Edifier promises 55 hours of battery life with the ANC turned off and a still-impressive 34 hours with the noise cancellation turned on. In the midrange, the Dynamic mode seemed more direct, warmer and denser, with voices and lead instruments being reproduced more prominently and having more assertiveness. In contrast, the Classic mode gave a much more homogeneous and expansive listening impression, possessing depth and revealing numerous details. That’s if you’re listening to the music right out of the box. Digging into the Edifier Connect app, you’re presented with some powerful tools to customize your sound. Let’s start off with the power EQ. When you open the built-in equalizer, you’ll see the four bands that you can adjust. Each band has a volume range between -9dB and +3dB. The treble felt like the most spread-out region in this frequency response. There’s a clear high-end detail to be had here, as the output in this range has the most texture. You’ll get some nice air and wispiness out of the timbre here, and it all appears very crisp and pleasant. SummaryThese are super-soft to wear but also boast excellent audio quality and customisation (Image credit: Future / Edifier) Swipe to the left to get to the EQ section. Here, there are just two presets: Classic (the default) and Dynamic. That’s fine with us because there's also an option to sculpt a custom curve. Uniquely, this EQ lets you adjust specific frequency bands, though the upper limit of four bands means you can only tweak the sound signature, not rewrite it. Swipe again to the left to reach a screen with the aforementioned Music, Game, and Theatre modes. Other EQs have more bands, but this one has an ace up its sleeve. You’re able to adjust each band’s frequency range in intervals as low as a single hertz. The lowest band can be set between 20Hz and 200Hz, 2001Hz-3KHz for the second lowest, 3001Hz-5KHz for the second highest, and 5001Hz-10KHz for the highest band. If that’s not enough, you can Q factor of each band.

These headphones have Game Mode which allows for ultra low-latency audio. It’s perfect for people that want to connect to headphones to their gaming PC via Bluetooth and not suffer from any audio lag / latency. There are also three audio presets to select depending how you use the headphones; choose from music, game and theatre modes to ensure you get the audio delivery that's best for you. Interestingly you can fiddle and adapt even these three modes to best suit you, for example noise cancelling can be removed. The WH950NB enters a competitive market, up against established brands like Bose and Sony but acquits itself very well. With fine build quality and very comfortable with a comprehensive app, the excellent sound quality is the icing on the cake. The overall impression was of an even-handed and smooth profile adapting itself to any style with musicality being the keyword. The soundstage, as befits a good set of headphones, was particularly notable.
