About this deal

He reminded me of the two little boys my mother had told me about when she had been a nurse in a London hospital during the blitz.

Winner of the Guardian Children's Fiction Award, and rightly hailed as a true classic of children's literature, Goodnight Mister Tom is a beautifully told, deeply moving story about the power of friendship, kindness, hope - and love. I would recommend this books to children no younger than 9 as it is quite sad in parts and may disturb younger readers. I have to say, along with To Kill A Mockingbird, and Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, this book is one of my all-time favourites. Although he has never travelled far, he takes the train into London and eventually finds Deptford and William's home.Tom Oakley is a gentle, patient man and seems instinctively to know how to deal with William’s problems, such as his persistent bed-wetting, which he handles with calm and grace. Both of these books have been adapted for the screen and radio and it has given me enormous pleasure to know that adult and child actors have played roles I have created. It also explores how nature uses electricity for example Bees use an electrical charge to collect pollen. Goodnight Mister Tom is a children's novel by English author Michelle Magorian, published by Kestrel in 1981. Unfortunately, Willie’s mentally unstable Mother has other ideas, she want him back with her, but Tom’s intuition tells him all isn’t well, and ultimately, he is forced to make a desperate decision.

His mother, a single parent, is an extremely religious woman who has controlled William through severe physical punishment and has kept him from school because she believes it to be a godless place.

Michelle Magorian was born in Portsmouth, Hampshire, [3] and is of Irish descent, her father William Magorian being from County Down, Ireland [ citation needed] She lived in Singapore and Australia from age seven to nine. As the weeks pass by Tom begins to worry when William doesn't answer his letters, so he goes to London to find him, and there makes a terrible discovery. I first read it when I was about ten and I was in Year 5, learning about WW2 and the Blitz and evacuees. With World War Two raging all around, young children are being sent from their homes in the city to the countryside for safety.
