The cover gives credit to, and prominently features, the two stars of the film— John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John—although they only appear on seven of the 24 tracks. They included the Billboard number-one hits " Grease", " You're the One That I Want" and the Academy Award-nominated " Hopelessly Devoted to You".

One of these, David Hungate, also performed on Newton-John's album Totally Hot with Toto guitarist Steve Lukather.

Note: Liner notes read under "Greased Lightnin' (Single Version)" that single was issued by RSO in 1978 with catalog number RS909. Ancient Grease were originally known as Strawberry Dust featuring Gareth “Morty” Mortimer (vocals), Graham Hedley-Williams (guitars), Jack Bass (bass) and Dick Owen (drums), they were spotted by Eyes of Blue drummer John Weathers brought them to the attention of Mercury Records head Lou Reizner who changed the name of the band while Weathers assumed the role of producer for the band’s sole album. Personally, for me I prefer the 1998 album by The Toronto Musical Review Grease: 16 Hits From The Musical on the ON STAGE label.
